Depeche Mode album spread under Black Swarm moniker against leaks

Depeche Mode album spread under Black Swarm moniker against leaks

taken from Side Line

imageThe website of the L.A. Times has run a rather interesting story on how big sellers in today's music industry try to avoid leaks as much as possible by all kind of means, one of those being the use of aliases. Recently the album by Depeche Mode has been sent off to editorial staffs of magazines and newspapers as being the newest release from the illustre band Black Swarm. Other aliases used are Arthur Moore, Fur Trees, Barney Rubble, Pete Mitchell and Let Me See the Fish, respectively Faith Hill, Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, Big & Rich, Paul McCartney and Sigur Rós. Already described as "probably the worst kept secret of this album, so far" by the official Depeche Mode webmaster, the idea is that a CD inadvertently left on the desk of a radio executive or a journalist is less likely to be stolen and put online if it says "Black Swarm" instead of "Depeche Mode". Expect some more hot Depeche Mode news in the next hours...

Electronic Music Pioneer Moog Dies At 71

From Billboard

By Lars Brandle, London

photo

Bob Moog, inventor of his namesake range of synthesizers and one of the most significant figures in the evolution of electronic music, died yesterday (Aug. 21) at his home in Asheville, N.C. He was 71. A native of N.Y., Moog was diagnosed with brain cancer in late April and had since undergone radiation treatment and chemotherapy.

After a decade of building theremins with his father, Moog created his prototype, the Moog Modular Synthesizer, in 1963 and unveiled it the following year at the Audio Engineering Society Convention.

Among the first popular recorded music albums to feature the instrument was Wendy Carlos' 1968 release "Switched-On Bach," which sold more than one million copies and earned the artist three Grammys. Moog himself received a Grammy Trustees Award for lifetime achievement in 1970.

"[Moog] contributed to a new soundscape -- a legacy that we will continue in his honor," comments Mike Adams, president of N.C.-based Moog Music. "He was a musical pioneer for the love of it and musicians everywhere have had the opportunity to expand their own creative horizons with Bob's inventions."

An icon in electronic music circles, Moog was the focus of a Hans Fjellestad-directed documentary, "Moog," which was issued last year by Plexifilm. He was due to deliver the keynote speech at the upcoming Amsterdam Dance Event, to be held Oct. 27-29, but was forced to cancel his appearance shortly after his diagnosis.

Moog's family has established the Bob Moog Foundation, a charity dedicated to the advancement of electronic music. A host of his collaborators, including Carlos and Yes' Rick Wakeman, will sit on its board.

He is survived by his wife, Ileana, and five children. No public memorial is planned.

Cartilla Canal Pop - Agosto 2005

1) Tenemos MySpace!

Plastic Orgasm People, un dúo misterioso

Classic rock joke

From the Dec Cluskey newsletter

The gags: [dating in 1957 - for those who remember and for those who don't remember. This humour is a shade of grey - but not what you may think at first.]

It's the summer of 1957 and Harold goes to pick up his date, Peggy
Sue.

Harold's a pretty hip guy with his own car and a duck tail hairdo.
When he goes to the front door, Peggy Sue's mother answers and invites
him in. "Peggy Sue's not ready yet, she says, "so why don't you have a
seat?"

Peggy Sue's mother asks Harold what they're planning to do.

Harold replies politely that they will probably just go to the
malt shop or to a drive-in movie.

Peggy Sue's mother responds, "Why don't you kids go out and screw?
I hear all the kids are doing it."

Naturally this comes as quite a surprise to Harold and he says
"Wha... Whaaat?"

"Yeah," says Peggy Sue's mother, "We know Peggy Sue really likes
to screw; why, she'd screw all night if we let her!"

Harold's eyes light up and he smiles from ear to ear. Immediately,
he has revised the plans for the evening. A few minutes later, Peggy
Sue comes downstairs in her little poodle skirt with her saddle shoes,
and announces that she's ready to go.

Almost breathless with anticipation, Harold escorts his date out
the front door while Mom is saying, "Have a good evening kids," with a
small wink for Harold.

About 20 minutes later, a thoroughly dishevelled Peggy Sue rushes
back into the house, slams the door behind her and screams at her
mother,

"Dammit, Mom! The Twist! The Twist! It's called The Twist!

Canal Pop bio v 1.3

Canal Pop is a pop band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with catchy electronic songs in English. Bandmembers are Emiliano Canal, keyboards and production, and Gabriela Laguzzi, the singer. The band was started in 2005 when Emiliano finally found in Gaby the singer he was looking for the project he had in mind.

Emiliano was a member of a band called Plastic Orgasm People, also with songs in English, which released some material overseas (that means in the USA and Europe). They were about to release their first album when singer Ale Marino suddenly went to live to New York City and the band was over. That was three years ago, leaving Emiliano with a couple of dozen catchy songs written but without a singer or a band.

"During a couple of years I was in a very curious situation," Emiliano remembers. "Because there were record labels that knew me and asked me for material, and I was locked at home with the songs, auditioning new singers to replace Alejandro. Most musicians have the band and the songs and have no idea of how to release the material. I had the songs and the labels but had no band." But that period had its advantages, because he dedicated himself entirely to write and record new songs, and to produce other people. And the new songs were somehow different to the previous ones.

"My former band was a typical band formed by guys which are 23, 24 years old," says Emiliano. "There were lots of sexual references, even in the name of the band, and that was just a reflex of the kind of life we lived at the time. We and our fans were living alone and away from our parents, going out every night, meeting girls or boys or whatever they liked, waking up late, eating junk food because nobody really knew how to cook, you name it. Now that time is over. I have my own apartment, I go jogging, I wake up early, my friends have kids so everything is less adult and more family oriented, if you allow me the expression. I realize that my songs have somehow changed, because now I don't feel I'm writing only for adults anymore. Any mother can let their kids listen to our stuff. Well, most of it".

The singer, Gaby Laguzzi, had a lot to do with that change. Her image is strangely innocent, a little bizarre and quite sexy at the same time, and she's the proud owner of a privileged voice. "Sometimes I think she's some kind of Japanese character, like Hello Kitty", says Emiliano. "She's got this charming side that attracts kids, from let's say 9 to 13 years old. No wonder that I don't write anymore about those crazy situations. But the odd thing is that she doesn't also attracts the kids, their parents (specially the fathers) seem to like her too. And gay guys love her. Nobody told me that he or she didn't like her. Some people said that Gaby wears bizarre clothes, but this is pop music. You have to look a little ridiculous".

This popular image is not casual. Gabriela has worked for many years as a professional singer, singing backing (and main) vocals with dozens of bands, recording jingles and going on tour with many famous bands. "I've sung jazz, tango, folklore, jingles for soup, jingles for shopping centers, and I've been on a Latin American tour sleeping in five stars hotels and I had to change my clothes in horrible places with no electricity full of cockroaches," remembers Gabriela. "And I really think that it's time to loosen it, to stop doing a thousand things and dedicate myself to Canal Pop and maybe some other little thing. I need to be a project where I can express myself".
