Mixing with sidechain

I finally learned how to mix my siongs using a sidechain effect on the compression. Sidechain works this way: when sound "A" reaches a certain level sound "B" lowers its volume. Its used in live transmissions from stadiums and such, everytime someone talks the background noise gets down.

Now, you set the kick as the "A" sound and the bass as the "B" sound, so, everytime the kick enters, the bass lowers its attack for a very short time, so both can be heard without anyone getting on top of the other.

THIS THING IS AWESOME!!

Borges Quote

Heard as something said by Jorge Luis Borges:

"Every technology created by man fails, except for the spoon"

The man was a spoon fan it seems...

Poor Pappo

I still can't believe it... I even made a black humor joke when told that Pappo had died... I said it's the Pope the one who's been hospitalized not Pappo... (Catholic people insert insult here).

He was a true rocker, good player, no modals whatsoever, was often drunk (he was a Pisces), and he always said he was the best and that everyone sucked, used to engage in fistfights... A guy without class who died without class (apparently was driving his motorbike, crashed into his son's motorbike, fell to the floor and was killed by a car). Very rocker. But we'll miss him...

Programming and recording

Lots of work to do... I'm recording songs with Eli the singer and most of the songs had to be transposed so I'm recording everything again in a new key...

I have to try some guitar players to add some guitars. It's not very easy to find someone able to play in this style. Guitar players are used to build the instrumentation and have the synths to come up with the little details, while in my style it's just the opposite, the main arrangement is based on synthesizers and the guitars enter here and there to make the song more interesting....

The Book Of Samurai: about real men

Hagakure, The Book Of The Samurai, chapter 1

According to a certain person, a number of years ago Matsuguma Kyoan told this story :

In the practice of medicine there is a differentiation of treatment according to the Yin and Yang of men and women. There is also a difference in pulse. In the last fifty years, however, men's pulse has become the same as women's. Noticing this, in the treatment of eye disease I applied women's treatment to men and found it suitable. When I observed the application of men's treatment to men, there was no result. Thus I knew that men's spirit had weakened and that they had become the same as women, and the end of the world had come. Since I witnessed this with certainty, I kept it a secret.

When looking at the men of today with this in mind, those who could be thought to have a woman's pulse are many indeed, and those who seem like real men few. Because of this, if one were to make a little effort, he would be able to take the upper hand quite easily. That there are few men who are able to cut well in beheadings is further proof that men's courage has waned. And when one comes to speak of kaishaku, it has become an age of men who are prudent and clever at making excuses. Forty or fifty years ago, when such things as matanuki were considered manly, a man wouldn't show an unscarred thigh to his fellows, so he would pierce it himself.

And they couldn't say that the age of Aquarius was approaching (Aquarius is almost unisex, so in the age of Aquarius the differences between the sexes and genders will become minimum).

Grotesque mistake in CSI episode

I've been watching an episode of CSI where a girl called 911 before being killed. The CSI people get the recording of the call and they give it to a technician with a PC and a Mackie console (they are very common) and the guys seems to be able to separate and isolate noises from the mono recording from the mobile phone (he isolates the voice taking out the noise of a train, the noise of a dog barking, etc.). He does this by pressing buttons in his Mackie console.

THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!! You can't do that, regardless of what you use. Much less pressing a couple of mute butons on an analog Mackie console... Anyway. As A-ha used to say, the sun always shines on TV...

Marc Almond performed live after the accident

Singer Marc Almond has performed on stage for the very first time since he was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in October 2004 (see this news article). The results of the crash were more than devastating, the singer fractured his skull in two places, shattered his right shoulder, perforated his eardrum and suffered a collapsed lung. He also suffered two massive blood clots which caused his head to swell and had to undergo emergency surgery twice. After 3 months already Almond, who celebrated his 25 years in musicbusiness last year, made his live comeback at Vienna's Life Ball at the weekend. In an interview with the BBC he admits he is still not fully fit. The Soft Cell frontman is still recovering from his injuries after the crash that left him unconscious for 10 days. The singer will have a further operation this month and he still doesn't have full use of his right arm. Almond, 48, also added that chances are that a select number of Soft Cell shows may take place later in the year. The band apparently also plans to enter the studio again. First off is the release of a solo live DVD entitled "Sin Songs, Torch And Romance", a live performance recorded last year.
