Reading a Monty comic strip I came across two words that I didn't know, "asinine claptrap". Asinine means: Failing to exercise intelligence or judgment; ridiculously below average rationality [Wiktionary]
Claptrap (or Clap Trap) means: Clap trap or claptrap is a term for empty verbiage or nonsense. The sort of thing that unscrupulous public speakers might say just to gain applause. [Wictionary]
The character was referring to a stupid TV show. I wonder if these expressions could refer to pop music... [just kidding]
