I've been watching an episode of CSI where a girl called 911 before being killed. The CSI people get the recording of the call and they give it to a technician with a PC and a Mackie console (they are very common) and the guys seems to be able to separate and isolate noises from the mono recording from the mobile phone (he isolates the voice taking out the noise of a train, the noise of a dog barking, etc.). He does this by pressing buttons in his Mackie console.
THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE!! You can't do that, regardless of what you use. Much less pressing a couple of mute butons on an analog Mackie console... Anyway. As A-ha used to say, the sun always shines on TV...

Well you see it was one of those Crime Lab Mackie's. It was a limited edition run, maybe you missed out on it but the sound seperation capabilites are limitless.
You may be right... That edition was not released here in South America...
